How We Research Toastie Makers

Every recommendation on ToastieMaker.com follows the same process. We are open about what it is and what it is not: our rankings are research-led assessments, not invented lab scores.

What we look at

  • Plate design: fill depth, whether the rims seal and cut the bread, plate shape (triangles, squares, flat or ridged panini plates) and whether plates are removable or dishwasher safe.
  • Heat: wattage, heating element layout and how evenly owners report the plates brown, plus preheat and cooking times.
  • Build: latch strength, hinge design (fixed or floating), cool-touch handles, feet and cord storage.
  • Coatings: type of non-stick, how manufacturers say to care for it, and how commonly owners report it wearing or peeling.
  • Owner feedback: recurring issues reported by many buyers, such as leaking, uneven browning or failed thermostats, rather than one-off complaints.
  • Price and value: typical UK price bands over time, warranty length and what you give up by spending less.

What we do not do

We do not publish made-up scores, star ratings, review counts or testimonials. We do not quote live prices, because they change daily; we give typical price bands and recommend checking the current price. We do not accept payment for placement.

Recipes

Recipes are written around how toastie makers actually behave: sealed plates trap steam, so wet fillings need limiting; thin edges burn first; sugar sticks. Quantities are metric, timings are given for a typical 700–900W electric sandwich toaster, and we note the changes needed for deep-fill machines, pans, air fryers and microwave toastie makers.

Keeping pages current

We review pages regularly and update them when models are discontinued or replaced. Each page shows the date it was last updated. If you think something is wrong, please contact us.
